Emmet Walsh going after Navin Johnson after Navin excitedly feels like a somebody for being in the phone book, and then becoming one, a target, but a target for being a nothing, which makes him somebody, but in the end, a nobody, pretty much exemplifies the existential absurdity of life. That's how great The Jerk is.
